Tee Me Up With Indie Shirts

An online t-shirt store is not a new thing, but with Tee Me Up, its gonna be a fresh start. The Sydney based online t-shirt business was conceptualized and established by its 27-year old owner, Glenn Tan, as a solution to his difficulties in marketing his own T-shirt brands and products.

Launched in November, Tee Me Up also intends to venture into selling t-shirt brands that cannot afford and are not given a significant exposure in the mainstream advertising and marketing channels. Operating on a unique retail model, Tee Me Up promises to offer something different both for the labels and the customers. The site has so far attracted up to 40 non-mainstream t-shirt labels and featured more than 450 tees for sale. The labels, which are otherwise not known to buyers, are thus made available to the public. On the other hand, buyers easily find non-mainstream unique tees that are to their liking and taste.

True to its unique business approach, Tee Me Up is staffed solely by its owner Glenn. He says he uses a variety of approaches to promote and market his business, mainly taking advantage of social media such as Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. Paid Google search and online banner advertising is also a part in the sales effort. Participation in T-shirt related events such as the exhibition “TEES: Exposing Melbourne’s T-Shirt Culture”, which runs until February 17, is also a key business activity. Tee Me Up also counts on its labels to update regularly on their products as well as provide good customer service.

The business is still in its infancy, but with its unique product, business approach and service, it hopes to realize greater exposure and sales for its labels in the future.

Superbowl Ad Spice Up A Boring T-Shirt

Gildan enjoyed a $2 million sale of its shirts last year, and its products are in 80% of American households today. But who knows that Gildan even exists? Even with the 500 million T-shirts it sells yearly through wholesale, no one really knows that it is the leading brand for blank T-shirts in the U.S. Since its product reaches its consumers after others added value such as a graphic or a message, buyers wouldn’t really think of Gildan when shopping for a shirt.

With its growth and strength in sales, however, the company has over the past two years planned on bringing the name as a brand in the market. Hence, a $4 million ad to play with the consumer-facing big boys in this year’s Super Bowl ad lineup.

Counting on their new marketing programs as well as distribution network, the company has come up with an ad that targets millennials. The ad tells a story of a man who wakes up in confusion in the morning, finding that a sleeping woman is wearing his shirt. The ad then tells viewers, “It’s about time you had a favorite t-shirt.”

The ad’s content itself may generate the buzz needed for Gildan to be noticed, and it remains to be seen whether the effect would be negative or positive. According to Derek Rucker, a professor of marketing at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, there’s a potential for first time advertisers either to make it big or to fail.

Gildan’s vice president for marketing Rob Packard, however, stresses that the company is ready to face the risk, and says that he and his team are pleased with the ad for the Superbowl in October. For an event teeming with perennials such as Chrysler and Budweiser, the Gildan ad will at least bring something new, apart from its goal of bringing to viewers the name as a brand.

Star Steals Scene with a T-Shirt Line

Rebel Wilson attends the "Bachelorette" premiere during the 2012 Sundance Film Festival held at Eccles Center Theatre on Jan. 23, 2012, in Park City, Utah.

If Rebel Wilson is to be taken by her name, then she is indeed a rebel, in the fashion arena at least. This scene stealer has recently got the attention of the fashion industry with her very own t-shirt lines that have a hilarious spin on it.

The “Perfect Pitch” star created “Fat Mandi”, a plus-sized t-shirt line with cupcakes and doughnut designs strategically placed across the chest. Retailing for $20, the t-shirts come in sizes “12 to beautimous x [size 18].” The line has two available shirts, the one with the cupcake design in blue color and the one with doughnut design in pink.

Fat Mandi takes inspiration from her character in the Australian sketch comedy TV show “The Wedge”, which also happens to be the inspiration for her other character Fat Amy in “The Perfect Show”.

Rebel offers her t-shirt line with an idea where to use it. She suggests in a tweet that the line is a great wear for horizontal running or just relaxing on the couch.

Pay It Forward Shirt Supports Cause for Africa

Generation Give

In line with its tradition of supporting worthy causes, Pay It Forward has released “PIF Africa”, a cause t-shirt intended to raise funds and awareness for the needs of Africa. In partnership with organizations that already have established presence in Africa, PIF, together with their customers, hopes to have an impact to positive changes in the region.

PIF is able to do this by donating 25% of proceeds from their t-shirt sales to one of the twelve non-profit organizations that it represents. Customers buying their shirts can choose which among these organizations to donate to, thus allowing them to give to a cause that they closely associate themselves with. These organizations are all known for their solid financial track record.

The new PIF shirt features the company logo in a yellow and blue variation with watermarked background on the canvas of a white crew neck tee. It is made of combed cotton and jersey material, and is of tailored design fit. The unique design is highlighted by the shirt’s olive green color.

According to Jana, PIF’s Operations Director, the shirts are designed to be a show stopper so that people would want to ask about it and what it means, thus raising awareness for causes that supports African women and children. For its wearer, the shirt also represents how they helped change the world.

They have been putting in 90 hour work weeks to satisfy the avalanche of orders for their their "We're Back" shirts and other apparel because of rumors the Sonics are returning to Seattle. Rumors are usually destructive in nature, but this time around, a rumor has actually been good for some shirt screen printer’s business. It started with some news about a NBA team’s possibility of returning to Seattle. As creative as it got, a company called Media Fly Creative set its wings high upon hearing the news and went about printing 1,500 Sonic’s shirts announcing “We’re Back!” This set up a a series of orders, and company owners Ian Bolyard and Dave Vahey said they had to work about 100 hours for a week to put up with demand.

Clay Bennett has bought the Seattle SuperSonics way back in 2006 and decided to move the team to Oklahoma City way back in 2008. To avoid a trademark battle with Bennett, Media Fly Creative has consulted a lawyer and has altered their designs accordingly.

The SuperSonics name will be back to Seattle if a planned sale of the team Sacramento Kings pushes trough between its owners, the Maloof family, and any group who agrees to move it to Seattle and restore the SuperSonics name. This sale, however, will be subject to NBA Board of Governors approval.

Beyonce’s Statement – In a Shirt!

Something to say?: It looked like Beyonce might have been referencing her recent lip-synching scandal when she shared this photo on her Instagram page

She may have kept quiet about the issue of lip-synching the National Anthem at President Obama’s recent inauguration ball, but Beyonce have not kept mum about the issue at all. In a recent Instagram post, she shared a photo where she is seen wearing a shirt with a phrase ‘Can I Live’ printed on it. Although she has not given her side on the lip-synching scandal, the photo is taken as referencing it as much as it referenced her husband Jay-z’s song having the same title, according to the Mail Online.

The photo posts precede Beyonce’s scheduled performance at the Super Bowl. Another image shows the singer-actress sporting a shirt with the name of her husband’s basketball team, The Brooklyn Nets. There is also a photograph that shows a wide black and white shot of her backup dancers in position. These photos were taken during her rehearsals for the Super Bowl show.

Beyonce will reportedly be performing onstage with her Destiny’s Child band mates, and she is set to sing their most famous songs as well as her hit song ‘Crazy In Love’. The singer have yet to air her side about the lip-synching issue, which exploded when a member of the Marine Corps Band claimed she did not sing in real time, but a Marine spokesman later backed off the claim. It appears the issue was a result of the misunderstanding about having a pre-recorded track. The use of these tracks as a backup is very common in live events.

Beyonce’s band mate Michelle defended on a segment of the program Good Morning America, saying that people should rather look at what can Beyonce bring in the future.

Finally! A Shirt for Healing Back Pain!

If you love to have that fabulous body shape but hate going to the gym, then this is just the news for you – a new shirt designed to cure back and shoulder pain caused by poor posture. Announced over the program, World News Now of ABC News on January 23, the shirt is sure to attract the attention of fitness enthusiasts.

The secret to the shirts back pain healing effects is the use of compression panels that are intended to pull the body back to a correct and supportive posture. This in effect makes your muscles work harder and results in toning up your stomach.

Working like a back brace, the shirt supports good posture by keeping the shoulders from sloping forward, as much as it keeps the spine in correct alignment. Back pain is then avoided because pressure is taken off the muscles that connect the neck to the shoulders. A panel around the middle also supports the core muscles, helping the wearer to keep from slouching.

Designed by a physiotherapist, the shirts panels, which are actually ‘tension tabs’, were placed where they will pull the body into an aligned position. Curbs in the shirt also make diagonal pulls, an important action for many muscles such as rhomboids found between the shoulders. The tabs on the lower part compress the abdominal muscles from the front to the back. Apart from making the abdominal muscles work harder, the compression also has the secondary effect of making the wearer think more about their posture,

Plane Crew Finds Shirt Intimidating

"The Princess Bride"

Fearing that passengers will be offended and intimidated by his shirt, a flight attendant at Qantas airways asked Wynand Mullins to change his shirt. The shirt has the words ‘Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.’ Mullins argues that the crew never understood the humor behind the shirt, and said that passengers next to him are laughing at the crew’s request because they know the movie from which the line on his shirt was taken. The quote was taken from a 1987 cult film entitled ‘The Princess Bride’.

Other airlines apart from Qantas have also been known to harass passengers on the issue of what they wear during flights. They don’t usually publish a specific dress code to follow, but they authorize attendants to decide on what is offensive or inappropriate. Last year in May, for instance, a woman in an American Airlines flight was told by the pilot that she should not be in the plane because she wore a shirt that had the F-word printed on it. In yet another instance, a man was barred from boarding a Delta flight in Buffalo, N.Y., last August for wearing a shirt that has a the words ‘Terrorists gonna kill us all’.

While this policy of the airlines may seem to violate a passengers freedom of speech, airplanes are considered as private property, and they have the right therefore to set up and enforce their own codes.
